At Joe Harrison Carter Elementary, we have an amazing group of bright and curious students in our Academic Team! This team is made up of enthusiastic 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who love to learn and challenge themselves.

To join this special team, students take a fun written assessment that helps us find out who is ready for the adventure ahead. Once they’re on the team, the real excitement begins! Throughout the year, our team members practice together, diving deeper into their studies and preparing for the thrilling Governor’s Cup competition that takes place in the spring.

The Governor’s Cup is a fantastic event that features eight exciting challenges:

• 5 Written Assessment Exams covering subjects like Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, and Arts/Humanities.
• Composition: This is all about On-Demand Writing, where students get to express their thoughts creatively.
• Quick Recall: Also known as the “quiz bowl,” this is a fast-paced game that tests students’ knowledge in a fun way.
• Future Problem Solving: This is an award-winning competition that encourages creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
