About Us
Lisbon Montessori Preschool is a parent cooperative preschool that encourages parents to be actively involved in their child's education. We offer a nurturing environment where children can learn and grow at their own pace. Our preschool is designed for children aged 3 to 5 years, and we require that all children be toilet trained to enroll.
Our Staff
- Mrs. Robin Mays - Lead Administrative Teacher
Over 17 years of experience in the Montessori curriculum, credentialed by the American Montessori Society. - Mrs. Leslie Wood - Assistant Teacher
Several years of experience in childcare and currently pursuing certification from the North American Montessori Center. - Mrs. West - Parent Volunteer
Assists with arts and crafts twice a week.
Daily Schedule
Our preschool operates on a daily schedule of two and a half hours. We offer options for 4 and 5 days a week. Daily activities include:
- Individual instruction
- Small group work
- Snack time
- Music
- Circle time
- Field trips and library visits
Parental Involvement
At Lisbon Montessori Preschool, parents work together with teachers to manage the school. We have scaled back requirements for parental involvement to accommodate busy schedules. Here are some ways parents can participate:
- Parent of the Day: Two parents assist each day with snack preparation, kitchen duties, and light cleaning.
- Co-op Meetings: Approximately 4-6 meetings per school year for families to provide input on school operations.
- Committees: Families can sign up for various committees to help with school duties.
- Board Member Positions: New members are elected each fall for positions such as Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.
Co-op Requirements
To maintain our cooperative spirit, we have a few requirements:
- Fall Beautification Day: Held at the end of August. A fee of $50 can be paid if a parent chooses not to participate.
- Fundraisers: Two mandatory fundraisers per year; optional additional fundraisers. A fee of $50 can be paid if a parent chooses not to participate.
- Weekend Cleanings: Approximately once every 12 weeks, a family is needed to clean part of the school. A fee of $100 can be paid if a parent chooses not to participate.
The Montessori Method
The Montessori Method is a child-centered educational approach developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. It focuses on the natural eagerness of children to learn and provides a supportive environment for independent discovery. This method emphasizes the development of the whole child, including physical, social, emotional, and cognitive aspects.
